Woman Crush Month is a month-long series by the girls of She Did What She Wanted
in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is great and everything, but can we talk about Phillipa Soo? This woman played the original Elizabeth Schuyler in Hamilton, perfecting the role and setting an incredibly high standard for her successors. Now, she is starring in the stage adaptation of Amélie, opening this spring. Phillipa is a beautiful singer, entrancing actress and overall lovely person. What I love most about her, however, is her activism.

It has always boggled my mind how some public figures can soak in their privilege and completely disregard the injustices occurring in our world. Pippa, on the other hand, has been consistently outspoken and active when it comes to fighting oppression. Her Twitter consists of shared political articles, retweets from liberal politicians, solidarity statements, links to donate to Planned Parenthood, ACLU, and more. At the most recent SuperBowl, Phillipa and her Hamilton costars, Renee Elise Goldsberry and Jasmine Cephas Jones, literally “included women in the sequel” by making the lyrics to “America the Beautiful” gender inclusive. As a woman of color, Pippa speaks up about being an Asian-American actress in the industry, but also stands in solidarity with other people of color dealing with discrimination around the world.

Phillipa uses her newfound fame for good, spreading awareness about important topics amongst her large following. Sometimes, it can be hard to enjoy things and find happiness when we are surrounded by such darkness and hatred in society. As an entertainer, Pippa provides us with artistic fulfillment onstage while also reminding us to stay active and aware. In my humble opinion, she is the perfect celebrity.

She Did What She Wanted firmly believes there’s nothing better than women empowering other women, so when we found out March is Women’s History Month, we knew we needed to do something special. There are too many amazing women to fit into just thirty one days, but to do our best, we invited our contributors to write about the favorite women in their lives, and Woman Crush Month came to be. #WCM is the ultimate girl power party, and it’s all about women celebrating women and their achievements, and we personally can’t think of anything better than that.
